Microbrewery caters to local tastes
By Pat Hill
A tasting room with ales and lagers, beer in six-liter bottles and a pressurized tap that holds the carbonation, the new microbrewery in Woodland Park is causing a stir among the residents.
“The flavors will reflect the community’s tastes — we’ll try out different brews,” said Jeff Aragon who, with Brian Horton, is the city’s new brewmaster. “Brewing beer is a craft as well as an art form.”
Arden Weatherford, local businessman and developer, is the main investor for the project.
“Certain places like certain kinds of beer,” Weatherford said. “I think this community has a fairly sophisticated palate.”
In addition to the strong stuff, the brewery includes root beer and ginger ale in the lineup.
Along with art galleries and a studio, restaurants, a salon/spa, jewelry, doughnuts, ice cream, a Western shop, travel agency, motorcycle gear, a tattoo parlor, pawn shop, animal and fishing supply stores, a boutique, banks, snowmobiles, hot tubs, sporting goods, a dinosaur museum, workout facility, antiques, furniture and real estate offices, the brewery adds zip to Woodland Park’s downtown.
While the owners have not chosen a name for the business in the former location of Big O Tires, the business is scheduled for a late-winter or early-spring opening.
