Enjoy holidays with a Twist

“Food, Glorious Food” sets the scene as hungry little orphans line up for a meager meal. Among their number is plucky, pint-sized Oliver Twist, who manages to prevail over the system. Charles Dickens” timeless characters will fill the Town Hall stage as “Oliver!” the musical by Lionel Bart, plays through Dec. 27, directed by the multi-talented Christopher Willard, with musical direction by Donna Debreceni. The Lone Tree Symphony will perform “A Midwinter’s Celebration” concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 9941 Lone Tree Parkway. The family-oriented program will range from Leroy Anderson’s “Christmas Festival to a narrated version of Clement Moore’s classic “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” A donation of $5 is suggested for ages 12 to 65.

Staff members Connie Wagner and Lila Downing at Englewood High School have organized a Holiday Craft Fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 28, with proceeds slated to help the school’s special needs students in the wake of recent budget cuts. Funds will be used for school supplies, clothing, fees and other needs that arise. Booths are available at $35 and $50, with an extra $10 for electricity if needed. They hope to sell 50 booths, but space is available for more in the commons and cafeteria of the school at 3800 S. Logan St. The booth fee is the only cost for crafters. The River Community will hold its 1st Annual Arts and Crafts Festival and Bake Sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Riverwalk Clubhouse, 2751 W. Riverwalk Circle, Littleton. The event showcases artists and craft persons living in Riverwalk. For information, 303-798-9414.


South Suburban Parks and Recreation will sponsor the 23rd Annual Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 5, at Goodson Recreation Center, 6315 S. University Blvd. This free event will feature 75 juried booths offering handmade crafts, pottery, jewelry, clothing, quilts, paintings, photography, floral arrangements, woodworks, holiday items and specialty foods. Free gift wrapping is provided. For those who want to get an even earlier start on their holiday gift list, the South Suburban Pottery Guild will be hosting its semi-annual sale on Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 30 – Dec. 1, from 8 am to 8 pm at Goodson Center. The Greater Castle Rock Art Guild Gallery at 240 Wilcox St. holds a one-day show of small paintings and sculptures from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 22, hoping for drop-ins after Castle Rock’s 73rd annual Starlighting ceremony. www.gcrag.org.

Call for artists: The Audubon Society of Greater Denver seeks artists and photographers to submit entries of for its contest and sale, scheduled Dec. 4-6. “Christmas is Coming, the Goose is Getting Fat!” is a concert scheduled by Denver Brass at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 28 at Cherokee Ranch and Castle, 6113 N. Daniels Road, Sedalia. Celebrationworks has canceled its production of “Kosher Lutherans” due to HINI flu, according to Carol Roper of Littleton. The next production will be “Your Dilly Dilly Heart” by Scott Gibson, opening Jan. 15.

Young actors in the Drama Club at Cresthill Middle School, Highlands Ranch, will perform in ”A Christmas Carol,“ adapted by Michael Youngs from the Charles Dickens classic (in a script distributed by Pioneer Drama Service Inc. of Englewood). The production, directed by Pam Hamar, will include members of the string orchestra and choir. Performances will be at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 19, 20, 21 at the school, 9195 Cresthill Lane, Highlands Ranch. Littleton’s Annual Candlelight Walk will be held Nov. 27, in historic Downtown Littleton. Gather for cider and carols starting at 5:30 p.m. Santa arrives at the courthouse and travels west on Main Street, starting at 6:30 p.m. to turn on Littleton’s holiday lights and Christmas tree.

Downtown Littleton Merchants are collaborating to decorate their windows in keeping with the mood set by Hudson Holidays and plan the Annual Holiday Shopping Evening from 5 to 9 p.m. Dec. 5, when there will be refreshments and special offers in the historic downtown area.
