Marijuana licenses on hold
By Michele Sample
Larkspur is in the midst of a 180 moratorium that prohibts any further licencing of people to grow, sell or distribute medical marijuana.
The moritorium ordinance was passed on Nov. 5 by a 5-1 vote.
“The license issued for one business before this moratorium was passed is not affected and remains valid,” Matt Krimmer, town clerk and manager said.
The town of Larkspur has received many inquiries from people who are interested in opening and operating a medical marijuana distribution facility. The town does not have any current regulations pertaining to businesses that grow, sell, receive or distribute medical marijuana.
“The town will suffer irreparable harm if a short, temporary moratorium is not imposed,” the ordinance reads.
Before the expiration of the moratorium imposed by the ordinance, the town staff and town attorney will review the legal authority of the town to regulate businesses growing, selling, receiving or distributing medical marijuana.
The town council concludes that this new ordinance is necessary for the immediate preservation of the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Larkspur.
