Historian to discuss local pioneers
Join the Palmer Lake Historical Society for an entertaining and informative evening with local historian Jack Anthony, who will share detailed insight focusing on the explorers, pioneers, homesteaders and entrepreneurs of the United States Air Force Academy area Nov. 19.
Based on Anthony’s continuing research and exploration combined with his discussions with many pioneer family descendants, participants will gain unique insight into early settlements and the life of the early pioneers of this area. Included will be an examination of citizens and businesses of the faded-away communities of Husted and Edgerton and efforts by the academy to honor and preserve the pioneer spirit.
Anthony is a local history enthusiast, researcher and explorer. His research over the past 10 years covers the area from Woodmen Road to north of Palmer Lake. In this past year, he has focused more on the pioneers who first settled on what we now know as the Air Force Academy.
The mission of the Palmer Lake Historical Society is to preserve and promote history through presentations and activities that bring alive the historical events that took place in the Tri-Lakes area or affected local or Colorado history. The Society’s motto is, “History should be more than a memory.” The Palmer Lake Historical Society is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization in Palmer Lake.
The program at 7 p.m. Nov. 19 at Palmer Lake Town Hall, 66 Lower Glenway Street in Palmer Lake is free to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
