Suzuran Judo takes sixth in Denver
With 17 clubs and 196 athletes competing at the Ninth Annual Denver Classic Judo Championships in Parker, the Divide-based Suzuran Judo Club placed sixth overall with five members taking home medals Oct. 24.
Daniel Chisholm, of Divide, placed first in boys standard at the 156-pound class, while also placing first in senior mens novice at 161.
Joining Chisholm with a gold was Mary Decker, of Divide, who took first in the womens novice division at 125 pounds and also came in second in girls standard at 120.
Rounding out the medals for Suzuran was Halen Padilla, of Woodland Park, who took second in boys novice at 120, Dustin Jensen, of Florissant, who took third in boys standard at 119 and Thomas Chisholm, of Divide, who took third in boys standard at 128.
Nicole Laurell, of Turkey Rock, who was competing for Ju Shin Kan, took first in the senior womens division at 57 kg.
Clubs from Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas, Montana and Missouri competed.
