Chamber wants shops to decorate for holidays
The Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce is asking its community-wide storefront businesses to help make Starlighting especially festive this year by participating in a decorating contest.
The Starlighting theme this year is Sense of Wonder and the deadline for entry into the contest is Nov. 13. Call 303-688-4597 or email mmares@castlerock.org to apply.
Judging will begin at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 20 and the winners will be announced during the Starlighting program Nov. 21. Winners and photos will also be submitted to local newspapers. A certificate and a collection of commemorative ornaments will be awarded to merchants in the following categories: Best of Show, Best Use of Lights, Most Creative and Best Small Town Theme.
For a complete list of Starlighting festivities, visit www.castlerock.org. The Starlighting ceremony will be in downtown Castle Rock at 5 p.m. at the Douglas County Administration Building on Wilcox Street between Third and Fourth streets. The star will be lit at approximately 5:30 p.m.
The Castle Rock Fire Department will have a chili supper from 3–7 p.m. at the fire station on Perry Street and a variety of musical venues, carolers and bell ringers will be stationed throughout downtown. Hot chocolate will be served and booths by nonprofit groups will offer hot cider, baked goods and gifts.
To keep this 74-year tradition going, donate to the Friends of Starlighting Fund by calling the Castle Rock chamber at 303-688-4597. Any donation amount will be accepted. Donations of more than $100 will receive recognition in the name of the family or business donor the night of Starlighting and in local media.
