Shop makes move to downtown
By Ashley Dieterle
Sheila Fuller’s dream was to open her business in downtown Parker.
After a couple years of patience, her dream has come true.
Fuller recently celebrated the grand opening of her pet shop, For Paws Bakery and Pet Spa, on June 20 at her new location, 19565 E. Mainstreet in Parker. She was previously located at 17051 Lincoln Ave., but when a spot opened in downtown she had to take it.
“In the beginning I was really frustrated because I wanted to be downtown and there just wasn’t a place open,” she said. “So when the space became available downtown, it was great because it just suited the shop and this is where we are meant to be.”
Fuller considers her shop more of a boutique than anything else. For Paws Bakery and Pet Spa provides a full menu of spa treatments for pets, a bakery filled with nutritional goodies for pets and a variety of pet products. She said moving to downtown takes her away from the strip-mall scene, which is not her cup of tea. She said in the past few years strip-malls have been popping up all over Parker and to her the real heart of Parker is in the downtown area.
“This is a historical building for me and I feel like our roots are now even deeper in Parker and we are a part of the history of Parker,” she said.
Fuller said she thinks Parker is losing the small-town feel of the community due to the great amount of growth, which is why she moved to Parker in the beginning. She wanted her family to live in a family-oriented community. But contrary to other parts of Parker, Fuller believes downtown Parker continues to hold the warmth of the small town.
“Downtown Parker is an area that can flourish because of the many wonderful events held down here,” she said. “Every weekend there is something happening and I see more people coming out to enjoy the events. Downtown will draw more and more people.”
Since she opened her doors at the new location, Fuller said the response from clients has been phenomenal. She credits her popularity simply to customer service.
“I am truly in this business because of my love for dogs and people who come in can trust us because I will treat their pets as if they were my own,” she said.
