Parker chamber has good year
2003 was a banner year for new businesses in Parker, as reflected by the record-breaking 67 ribbon-cuttings organized by the Parker Chamber of Commerce and the 117 new business licenses issued by the town from July through December, said Parker chamber director Dawna Callahan.
The chamber's membership increased by 30 percent, and the board of directors has raised the bar even higher in its recently approved 2004-06 strategic plan, Callahan said.
Highlights of the plan include five overall goals.
Membership is one of those goals. The plan calls for the chamber to focus on retaining and recruiting members and offering programs, events and services of high value.
The chamber also should continue to offer community-valued, cost-effective events to serve the needs of members, the community and the chamber.
In the communications arena, the chamber should enhance its public relations, marketing and communications through use of technology and its Web site, www.ParkerChamber.com.
The chamber also should operate as effectively as possible to add value to the organization and its members.
In the community, the chamber should develop and enhance clout and position itself in the community among government, the media, public and private entities.
The monthly forums with town officials have been particularly well received, Callahan said, and are one aspect of the chamber's community goal.
Open to the public at 11 a.m., the last Friday of the month at the chamber office, forum topics are timely and range from Parker sign codes to the town sales tax, which will be the subject Feb. 27.
The forums are designed to prompt communication between businesses and government officials in a round-table environment.
The chamber's calendar of community events includes Old West Gambling Night on the Mississippi, March 27; the Parker Country Festival, June 11-13; Parker Business Expo, Sept. 18; Race to the Taste, Sept. 25; and the Parker Christmas Carriage Parade, Nov. 27.
The Parker Chamber of Commerce supports and promotes the success of its members through networking, professional development, advocacy, leadership and community development, Callahan said.
